Welcome to Team West

Beccy Barrett - Head Groom

Beccy began working for us in March 2009 and has undoubtedly proved to be a tremendous success. She is 30 years old and is highly motivated and organised. Added to which, her knowledge and care of the horses is top class and having Show Jumped herself to a good level, she is of huge assistance to Helen as a pair of eyes on the ground. She is meticulous in her preparation of the horses for competition, as well as on a day to day basis. She is extremely observant and knows each horse inside out. Beccy lives on site at Stonelands, which is highly reassuring to us all, as she is always on tap in case of an emergency as well as just being around to offer daily assistance and here to do late night checks.
Her calm and confident manner at competitions is of huge comfort to Helen, in fact her only downfall is her ability to fall asleep within seconds of the lorry engine starting!!

Sophie Richardson - Groom/Rider

20 year old Sophie completed 12 weeks work experience with Team West  two years ago whilst studying at Hartpury. Sophie went on to complete her FDSC degree in Equine Performance. She has ridden since the age of 8 years old and now has a couple horses in to compete herself. Sophie worked as a working pupil at Giovanni Ugolotti and Katherine Robinson's yard in 2014, but recently moved back to Devon and started work for Team West in January 2015. Sophie is a very dedicated and hard working member of the team who provides top class care to all of the horses. Keep an eye out for her on the competition circuit this year.

Tony Kaye MRCVS - Vet

Tony Kaye has particular interests in equine orthopaedics and back conditions, equine reproduction and equine dentistry. Tony has been instumental in keeping Helen's horses fit and sound. He visits the yard regularly and keeps a close eye on all aspects of the horses' preparation, from routine bloods to analysing foot balance and any other potential causes of lameness. Tony knows each of the horses individually and plays a vital role in maximising their performance.

Helen Tompkins - Veterinary Physiotherapist
(MSc (An. Manip.) Dip ITEC (Equine) MMAA BCMA (Regd)

Helen is an experienced equine & animal physical therapist having been practising for over 10 years and holds a Masters Degree in Animal Manipulation from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic.  In addition to her general equine and large animal physical therapy practice, Helen lectures on the ITEC Diploma in Equine Sports Massage course for Mary Bromiley, FCSP, with whom she originally trained.    She has a variable box of tricks including laser, therapeutic ultrasound, interferential and PEMF electrotherapy modalities to call on,  but also retains a strong interest in remedial exercise and rehabilitation and leaves us plenty of "homework" to do between her sessions on the horses to improve their physical wellbeing.  In her "spare" time, Helen is half way through a second Masters Degree - this time in Veterinary Physiotherapy.
